The ark of the covenant is referenced throughout the old and new testaments as follows.

The Ten Commandments, contained in the ark, are the ONLY words spoken directly by YHWH and heard by a group of people.  Yahuah thundered the 10 Commandments to the people of Israel from Mt. Sinai.  These Ten Commandments are YHWH's verbal and written testimony.  The Ten Commandments are the ONLY words in the bible that were written by His finger:

Now Yahuah said to Moses, "Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandment which I have written for their instruction." EXODUS 24:12

When He had finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, He gave Moses the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone, written by the finger of Elohim. EXODUS 31:18

Now Yahuah said to Moses, "Cut out for yourself two stone tablets like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered." EXODUS 34:1

"Yahuah gave me (Moses) the two tablets of stone written by the finger of Yahuah; and on them [were] all the words which Yahuah had spoken with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly." DEUTERONOMY 9:10
